The Future Is Bright – Gernot Rohr Names 5 Super Eagles Stars Set To Raise Nigeria Football To Greater Heights

The Super Eagles head coach expressed the belief that the senior national football team now has the right blend of youth and experience required to move forward.

Although without the services of the experienced trio of Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Odion Ighalo, Nigeria can remain a force to reckon with, opines German tactician Gernot Rohr.

With the experience gained from playing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 African Cup of Nations, Rohr believes the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Oghenekaro Etebo, William Troost-Ekong and goalkeeper Francis Uzoho are ready to lead his team into a glorious future.

The Super Eagles – with most of the players making their debut at the Mundial – could not make it to the knockout round of 2018 World Cup in Russia but finished in third place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The former Gabon coach is confidently optimistic that the team can only get better.

“Ah yes, I think!,” Rohr responded when asked by Girondins33 if the future looks great for the Super Eagles.

“Especially that among these (Super Eagles) boys, especially Onyinye Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Oghenekaro Etebo, who has just joined a Spanish club with Getafe … these boys have already played a World Cup! They have already accumulated a little experience.

“There is William Troost-Ekong playing for Udinese, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who was the youngest at the World Cup at only 18 years old, and who is currently injured, but I hope he will come back in full form after the operation of his cruciate ligaments.

“In all of these, this is a young team, but one that has already experienced the World Cup, so it knows what it means, and it has a little bit of experience now.”

Rohr’s contract expires in the summer, but he has revealed he’s willing to continue in his role as the head coach of the Super Eagles should the Nigeria Football Federation chose to renew his contract.
