Leicester City’s Boss Brendan Rodgers Unhappy At Iheanacho’s Penalty Decision In Cup Defeat

Despite scoring Leicester City’s only goal, Brendan Rodgers revealed that the Super Eagles striker could have done more to prevent the Foxes from going out of the Carabao Cup at the semifinal stage.

The former Liverpool manager believes Kelechi Iheanacho could have won his side an early penalty in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at the Villa Park which could have changed the course of the eventual outcome.

The Nigeria international was challenged inside the opening ten minutes of the encounter by Villa’s Tyrone Mings, but he managed to stay on his feet. Rodgers has now frowned at the 23-year-old’s decision not to go down, and earn a penalty for the visitors.

A couple of minutes after the incident, the hosts grabbed the opener, although Iheanacho levelled scores midway into the second half. However, a late volley from Egypt international Trezeguet lifted Villa into the final of the competition.

Following the clash, a disappointed Rodgers still can’t get over that Iheanacho penalty incident.

“I thought we started the game very well,” the Northern Irish tactician told the club’s website after the game.

“We might have had a penalty if Kelechi [Iheanacho] goes down in that first 10 minutes when Tyrone Mings is coming back at him.”

Iheanacho will hope to get a chance to redeem himself when Leicester take on Chelsea in their next Premier League game on Saturday.
