Paul Onuachu grabbed a fine second half strike to inspire Genk to a narrow 2-1 win over Eupen in the Jupiler League on Boxing Day.
Goals from Junya Ito and Nigeria international Paul Onuachu – his seventh goal of the league campaign – helped Genk overcome the struggling visitors on Thursday afternoon.
Japanese football star Ito, who is on loan from Kashiwa Reysol, opened the scoring for Racing in the 12th minute. Onuachu then extended the home side’s lead 15 minutes into the second half.
Three minutes later, though, Jean Thierry Lazare Amani halved the deficit for KAS Eupen to set up a thrilling finish. The hosts however held on for the three maximum points that lift the Blue-Whites into the 8th position on the 16-team table with 31 points.
The winning goal against Eupen takes Onuachu’s tally to seven from 15 league games, with the former FC Midtjylland forward netting two of those in his last three games.
Paul Onuachu joined Hannes Wolf’s side in the summer after he rose to prominence with Danish side FC Midtjylland. The 25-year-old spent 8 years with the former Danish champions, scoring more than 50 league goals in 135 appearances.
