NFF Gives Rohr The Liberty To Decide On The Fate Of NPFL Players

The Nigeria Football Federation has debunked reports circulating in the media that the federation wants to impose the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players on the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr.

Making this known on Friday was NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire, who categorically revealed that the German tactician has the freedom to invite players that he deems capable of representing the senior national team.

This is after the Federation President, Amaju Pinnick said in an interview that Rohr’s contract will only be renewed if he gives local league players more playing time in the senior national team.

But Olajire during a chat on Sports Extra stated that the football body would never interfere in the selection of players by Rohr for any competition.

He revealed that they have given the former Gabon manager the freedom to decide whether he would include the NPFL players in his plans.

“There’s nothing like imposing NPFL players on the coach. He is at liberty to pick his players,” he said.

Despite the ongoing contract row with the federation, it is not yet known if Rohr’s contract would be extended after his contract expires in June 2020.
