Imama Amapakabo Boasts Despite U-23 Eagles Failure

Super Eagles assistant coach Imama Amapakabo says he considers 2019 as one of the best years of his coaching career.

Amapakabo failed to qualify home-based Eagles for the  2021 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) after they were knocked out in the preliminary stages by Togo.

He also failed to lead the U-23 Eagles past the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations. The team’s inability to qualify from the group means Nigeria will not take part in the football event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

But despite his struggles, Amapakabo said this year is one of his best years in management. In a chat with Brila FM, Amapakabo said that it’s a privilege to have served in various capacities of the national teams.

“It is the best year for me,” Amapakabo told Brila FM.

“Imama Amapakabo had the opportunity that many others had never had. Assistant coach of the Super Eagles, head coach of CHAN Eagles, head coach of U-23, whatever the results are, all glory to God I think it’s a blessed year for me.”

“I am a coach and I try to do my best at all times and get results as much as I possibly can. Like I say all the time I’m like a gravedigger, the day I win games I dig four shovels, the day I lose I dig 200, he added.
