FIFA Rankings: More Room For Improvement For Nigeria’s Super Eagles In 2020, Says Former Kayserispor goalkeeper

Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Alloy Agu believes Nigeria’s latest FIFA rankings in the outgoing year will improve in the coming year.

The three-time African champions ended the year 2019 in 31st position with Gernot Rohr’s men amassing a total of 1493 points to retain their third position in Africa behind Senegal and Tunisia.

The rankings will also help the Super Eagles avoid the top teams in Africa when the draws for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers take place on January 21, 2020.

Agu, the starting goalkeeper in the 1990 African Nations Cup, also the back up to Rufai at 1994 FIFA World Cup attributed the team’s rankings to the players’ commitment and dedication.

He told Soccernet.ng that though the team could have achieved better rankings in 2019, he still believe 2020 would bring forth better results for the team.

“I don’t think we have done badly to have finished 31st in the latest FIFA rankings because other top countries in the world are behind us.

“No doubt, I still want to believe that we can still improve on this performance in 2020. The technical crew led by Gernot Rohr is doing everything possible to make the team better.

“In all, we should appreciate the efforts of the players for their commitment and dedication for national call. I am confident that 2020 will bring forth good tidings for the team.”

The former Kayserispor goalkeeper played 28 international matches for the senior national team before his retirement.
