Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem was helpless as his Leganes side suffered their 11th defeat of the season in a 1-0 loss to Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Diego Carlos’ 63rd-minute strike secured the win for the hosts who leapfrogged Barca into second place ahead of the champions clash against Atletico Madrid.
Following a goalless first half, Sevilla finally found the breakthrough 18 minutes after the restart through Diego Carlos who stabbed home from close range.
Nigerian international, Awaziem was on for the whole 90 minutes, but could not prevent his side from suffering another defeat. It was the 22-year-old’s eighth appearance of the season.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Kenneth Omeruo was not in the squad with reasons for his absence still unknown. The defeat leaves Leganes rooted to the bottom of the table with just one win in 15 league matches.
