Robertson, Mane The Heroes As Liverpool Complete Miraculous Comeback Against Villa

Goals from Andy Robertson and Sadio mane within the space of five minutes ensured Liverpool maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League as they came from behind to beat Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds started slowly and were lackadaisical in their build-up play.  It was the Villans that had the first real chance of the game through El-Ghazi, but Alisson Becker’s brilliant reflex save prevented Dean Simth side from taking the lead.

Liverpool continued to struggle and they were made to pay as Villa took the lead in the 21st minute through Trezeguet. The Egypt international finished perfectly from a James McGinn set piece.

The goal sent the Villa fans into ecstasy, but their joy was almost shortlived as Roberto Firmino had the ball in the back of the net for Liverpool, only for it to be chalked off for offside.

Although replays showed it was inconclusive. Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp’s side continued to press for an equaliser, but Villa maintained their stability to go into the break with the lead.

The second half started with Liverpool pressing forward in search of an equalizer. The Reds first real chance in the half came from a Sadio Mane’s header, but Tom Heaton made himself big in Villa’s goal to deny the Senegal international.

The Reds continued to threaten and should have been levelled in the 76th minute through Adam Lallana, but the former Southampton man could not apply the perfect touch to a Roberto Firmino’s cutback.

However, the pressure will pay off four minutes from time, albeit from an unlikely source in Andy Robertson. The Scotland captain headed past Tom Heaton following a perfect delivery from Sadio Mane.

But there was to be more drama as Liverpool completed the comeback through Sadio Mane who headed in from a Trent Alexander Arnold’s cross two minutes into the five minutes of stoppage time.

The goal ensured Liverpool maintain their six point lead over Manchester City ahead of the blockbuster clash between the two at Anfield next Sunday.
