The Super Eagles forward was part of a Lille side that was brushed aside 2-0 at home by Ajax but the Dutch side’s star performer has pointed at the Nigeria international as the biggest challenge Erik Ten Hag’s men faced on the night.
Victor Osimhen failed to add to his two goal tally on Wednesday as Ajax shut him out but he was a constant menace throughout the night, a fact that was not lost on Hakim Ziyech, the man of the match.
Morocco international, Ziyech scored the opener after just 120 seconds and provided the assist for the second moments after the interval to help Ajax dump Lille out of Europe.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who also had a goal chalked off by VAR for handball, however admitted that despite the straightforward victory, the visitors encountered some difficulty against Lille, especially with their star forward, Osimhen.
“What a great start, because our first attack resulted in a goal. But after that we got a bit sloppy,” Hakim Ziyech was quoted by UEFA.com as monitored by Soccernet.ng.
“They were playing a long ball game, and their centre forward (Osimhen) was causing us some problems.
“But they only had a couple of big chances, and otherwise we controlled the game. We definitely deserved to win.”
Lille face Chelsea next at the Stamford Bridge on Match Day 6 with Osimhen keen on adding to his two goal tally in Europe before saying goodbye to the Champions League this season.
