“It’s Devastating” – Positive Victor Osimhen Rues Lille’s Missed Chances

Lille may have been dumped out of this season’s UEFA Champions League but the Nigeria international is not losing heart at the disappointing outing, choosing rather to look forward with positivity.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has identified the early goal conceded by Lille against Ajax on Wednesday at Stade Pierre Mauroy as the reason behind the team’s 2-0 loss to the Dutch champions.

Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech scored the game’s opener with barely two minutes on the clock to condemn the French side to chasing the game all night.

However, while Osimhen was outstanding for the most part, his Lille teammates fell well below the mark as Bamba and Ikone were guilty of missing clear chances presented to them by the former Sporting Charleroi star. Ajax made Les Dogues pay for those terrible finishing as shortly after the restart Promes struck the second goal.

A disappointed Osimhen is however already looking forward to their last group game against Chelsea on match day 5 at the Stamford Bridge.

”It was devastating to concede such an early goal. But we had chances, we could have led 2-1,” Osimhen told reporters as monitored by Soccernet.ng after the game.

”I’m always positive in what I think and do, so we’ll go to Chelsea to play our game.

”We are playing against one of the best teams in the world, and we know it’ll be tough. But our best performance so far came against Chelsea here.”

Osimhen has scored two goals in the Champions League, one of which came against Chelsea in October.
