Award-Winning Nigeria Forward Expects ‘Fantastic’ Year To Get Even Better

After picking up his club’s player of the month award for October and helping the Super Eagles claim two wins out of two in the race for the 2021 AFCON, Nantes winger Moses Simon has revealed his determination to achieve more before the year runs out.

Nigeria international Moses Simon is confident that he can end his 2019 French Ligue 1 campaign on a high similar to what he has enjoyed with the Super Eagles on the international scene.

The Nigeria national football team ended a pleasing year 2019 – that already brought in an AFCON bronze medal in Egypt – in bullish mode after beating Benin and Lesotho within the space of four days.

Simon, 24, came off the bench in Nigeria’s 2-1 triumph over the Squirrels last Wednesday in Uyo but started on Sunday when the Eagles smashed the Crocodiles 4-2 in Maseru to record a perfect start to the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

The Nantes forward, winner of the club’s Player for the month of October award, is hoping to carry that momentum and form into the Ligue 1 beginning with Nantes clash away at Stade Brestois 29 this weekend.

“It’s been a fantastic week for me and the national team. It wasn’t an easy outing but we are happy for the wins which puts us in a great position to qualify for the next AFCON,” Simon told AOIFootball as monitored by Soccernet.ng.

“Now it’s time to focus on the rest of the year with Nantes. I have had an amazing start here and winning the player of the month for October can only spur me on to do more for the team.”

The 24-year-old joined Nantes on a season-long loan deal from Levante and has rewarded the club’s faith by contributing with 5 goals and 2 assists in all competitions to help Nantes stay 9th in the league.
