Nigeria vs Benin: Rohr Questions CAF’s Timing Of 2021 AFCON Qualifier

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has disclosed his displeasure with CAF’s timing of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and the Squirrels of Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday.

Rohr made this known in Uyo, where he revealed that the players have a short time to perfect their strategies for the big game on Wednesday.

The German tactician, however, stated that the players are already adapting to his training programs and ready to deliver the three points.

“The preparation is very short like you know because some players arrived on Sunday evening. We only have one training session on Monday and Tuesday before the game against Benin on Wednesday. One player will not be coming, which is Brian Idowu, who has an injury problem, so we have only 22 players. But I have invited one locally based player to join the team, that’s Ifeanyi, to make it 23 players.

“We have to do meetings to blend our programs perfectly. Besides, we must be able to adapt to our program within this short time. There is only one training session with all the players before we have to put together the players that will start the match.

“I think CAF has not made a good decision because no respect for the players. most especially with injuries to some players and others trying to meet up with arriving schedule when the game will be played by 5pm on Wednesday. They are also not respecting the coaches and the other teams as well. Well, it is the same for other countries.
