Solskjaer’s Job On The Line After Man United Stalemate Against Liverpool

Manchester United failed for the umpteenth time to pick up the maximum point as the team was held to a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford, to further put Red Devils manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job on the line.

The Red Devils began the encounter on a bright note as Andreas Pereira had the chance to put the team ahead in the 12th minute only for his shot to missed the target.

Liverpool, who was playing without Mohammed Salah due to injury, also wasted no time to announce their intent as Georginio Wijnaldum smashed the shot straight to the hands of Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea.

A few minutes later, the duo of Pereira and Scott McTominay had the opportunity of breaking the deadlock but their strikes failed to threatened Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, who just returned from injury.

The deadlock was finally broken as Marcus Rashford beautifully slotted home the opening goal in the 36th minute, sending the crowd to frenzy. Rashford’s goal was considered controversial by Liverpool players after Victor Lindelof had fouled Divock Origi in the build-up to the goal. The goal was overlooked by the video assistant referee (VAR) but wasn’t chalked off, much to the outrage of Liverpool players and fans.

And to make matters worse for the Merseysiders, VAR ruled out a goal for the two minutes before the interval, with Sadio Mane adjudged to have handled the ball before putting it into the net.

At the resumption of the second half, Manchester United continued from where they stopped in the first half as they controlled possession and created few goal-scoring chances to extend their lead.

Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain almost leveled parity for the visitors in the 64th minute but his shot failed to hit the target.

At the same time, Marcus Rashford, who had the chance of extending the Red Devils lead in the 67th minute when he found himself in Liverpool’s 18-yard box, failed to connect properly with the ball.

The Reds eventually leveled parity in the 85th minute through substitute Adam Lallana to the delight of the Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.

All efforts by both teams to pick the maximum points proved abortive as the Reds maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League.
