Revealed: How Tottenham Hotspur Missed Out On Signing Super Eagles Star

The Super Eagles star was reportedly set to join Tottenham, spending a couple of weeks there even, at the onset of his career but he opted for Chelsea instead in a journey that also saw him spend time on loan at Hull City before settling down in current club, Torino.

Ola Aina signed for Chelsea as an under-11 and made his youth team debut as a schoolboy in the 2012–13 season, rising through the ranks to feature for the senior team three times.

His time on loan at Hull City was deemed a success and Italian side Torino snapped him up on loan the following season before making the deal permanent on 11 June 2019 for a reported fee of £9 million.

However, that journey could all have gone ever so differently had Ola Aina’s father, a self confessed Spurs fan, had had his wish of seeing his son play for the North Londoners granted.

“He was meant to sign for Tottenham,” Ola Aina’s father told Aljazeera.

“They had him over for about three weeks, then on the day he was supposed to sign, they kept acting funny. As a big Spurs fan, it was heartbreaking.

“Luckily, Chelsea officials were still calling us daily, so we decided, ‘Why not go where you are wanted?'”
