Henderson, Salah On Target As Liverpool Edge Out Tottenham

Jordan Henderson and Mo Salah scored as Liverpool came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League encounter between the two sides at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Spurs drew the first blood in the opening minute with Harry Kane heading in from close range. The England international headed in after Son’s shot came off the bar.

Liverpool appeared to be struggling in the opening minutes and could have fallen behind, but Dele Alli could not connect with Harry Kane’s low cross.

With Liverpool sensing danger, Klopp’s men took control of the game and should have levelled if not for Paul Gazzaniga in Spurs goal.

The Argentine goalkeeper denied Liverpool three times in the opening half with three fantastic saves. The 27-year-old denied Salah first by keeping out the Egyptian’s shot from inside the D before getting up to stop Firmino from scoring the rebound.

The Reds continued to throw everything at Spurs but Gazzaniga was up to the task. The former Southampton goalkeeper denied Van Dijk by tipping his bullet header over the bar. It was a save Gianluigi Buffon would have been proud of.

Gazzaniga continued to keep the Reds at bay, and this time he denied Trent Alexander Arnold by keeping out his long-range effort.

Nevertheless, Klopp’s men continued to press and came close again with Sadio Mane, but the Senegalese could not control his header when he should have done better.

It was the last real chance the Reds had in the opening half as Spurs went into the break with the lead. The second half resumed with Liverpool pressing right from start, but it was Spurs who went closest first through Son.

The Korea international got on the end of a long ball before rounding off Alisson, but his effort could only come off the crossbar.

It would prove to be a costly miss as Liverpool got back on level terms through Jordan Henderson. The Liverpool captain finished off with his left foot after a ball of Danny Rose fell into his path.

The equalizer put Liverpool on the ascendancy and they almost took the lead through Gini Wijnaldum, but his header was straight at Gazzaniga.

However, it was not long until Liverpool took the lead albeit from the penalty spot. Serge Aurier was adjudged to have upended Sadio Mane in the box which then gave Salah the chance to convert from the spot, and gave Liverpool the lead for the first time.

The Egyptian was however taken off minutes after scoring the penalty with a suspected ankle injury. Spurs pressed forward for an equalizer but Liverpool resisted everything thrown at them to take the maximum points.
