Abraham, Tomori’s Hopes Of Playing For Nigeria’s Super Eagles Have Been Dashed

Nigeria’s hopes of capping the duo of Chelsea stars, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori could well be dashed after England manager, Gareth Southgate extended invitations to the players ahead of the Three Lions Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.

On Wednesday after Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Lille in the UEFA Champions League, Abraham stated that he was yet to decide on his international future. The 22-year-old was cagey over his future after the game given he is also eligible to play for his Nigeria, the country where his father was born.

However, the whole story has changed after his invitation to the senior national team by Southgate on Thursday. Abraham’s previous two caps came under Southgate against Germany and Spain in November 2017 and last month the England boss claimed it was “a bit early this time” to call up the striker.

If he features in either Euro 2020 qualifier, Abraham will no longer be allowed to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The same also applies to Fikayo Tomori who was invited by the England manager. Tomori has quickly established himself as a first-choice centre-back at Stamford Bridge under Lampard after spending last season on loan at Derby. The 21-year-old has 15 caps at Under-21 level but has never made the senior squad before.
