Okeke delighted with debut win with Madrid

Super Falcons star Chidinma Okeke has expressed her delight in helping her new team Madrid pick up a win and the three points at stake in the 1-0 victory over Real Betis on Sunday.

The young defender enjoyed a debut to remember as she led her new team to a clean sheet and a hard fought three points on Sunday night at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Matapiñonera, reports Soccernet.ng.

Estela Fernandez got the only goal of the game in the 94th minute for coach Víctor Miguel Fernández’s side but all applause were directed at the 19-year-old Nigerian defender who marshalled a defense notorious for leaking goals for fun.

Last season Madrid CF ended 13th on the league table after keeping a clean sheet in just three of their last 13 matches.

The 19-year-old took time out to express her delight after the match.

“First official match, first win! I feel great to record a winning debut with Madrid in Spain on my first professional game. This means a lot to me. Thanks to the fans and kudos to my team’s fighting spirit against Real Betis. Looking forward to more wins this season,” Chidinma wrote on her Twitter handle.

Okeke Chidinma, before moving to Spain, played for FC Robo in the Nigeria Women Premier League and was part of the Nigerian team that won the 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup in Ivory Coast.
