Super Eagles starman Alex Iwobi could only watch from the Bench as a goal from Bernard secured a 1-0 victory for Everton in their Premier League clash against Watford on Saturday at Goodison Park.
The 23-year-old joined the Toffees from Arsenal on deadline day for 40m pounds but has yet to make his debut for the team. The Nigerian international missed last weekend’s draw against Crystal Palace after he was not registered on time.
But having had a full week of training with the team this week, he would have hoped to make his bow in front of the home fans. However, he could only watch from the bench for the full 90 minutes with Silva preferring Bernad, Sigurdsson and Richarlison as the midfielders to play behind Calvert Lewin.
It proved to be a correct decision as a tenth-minute strike from Bernard was all Everton needed to secure the maximum points. Although Watford had the chance to drew level in the second half through Troy Deeney, his effort was thwarted by Jordan Pickford.
Silva made three changes which did not include Iwobi as Everton ran off as winners. Nevertheless, Iwobi will be hoping to make his debut when Everton take on Aston Villa next week.
