Griezmann Shines In Messi, Suarez’s Absence As Barcelona Thrashed Real Betis

After losing 1-0 to Atletic Bilbao last weekend, Barcelona returned back to winning ways as two goals from new recruit, Antoine Griezmann helped the team to a 5-2 routing of Real Betis in Sunday’s La Liga clash at Camp Nou.

The French striker, who joined the Catalan giants from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £107 in July, failed to prevent Barça slumping to a 1-0 defeat in their La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao.

And with Lionel Messi still out of action against Betis (as well as Luis Suarez also missing) the onus was on Griezmann to provide the firepower on his Camp Nou debut.

Griezmann never managed to score at Barça’s home ground during his spell with Atletico Madrid, and he must have feared the worst when Nabil Fekir put Betis 1-0 up against the run of play after 15 minutes.

The £107 million signing scored twice on his home league debut and after the second goal, which put Barcelona ahead against Real Betis, ran to the corner, took a handful of glitter confetti from a stagehand/steward and theatrically threw it into the air as supporters behind the goal cheered almost as loudly as they had for the goal.

Barcelona won the game 5-2 with Jordi Alba and 21-year-old Carles Perez and Arturo Vidal also scoring.
