UEFA CL: Former Chelsea goalkeeper reacts to the Blues meeting Victor Osimhen’s Lille

The UEFA Champions League draw held on Thursday pitted Chelsea in the same group with Ajax, Valencia and Lille with former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech revealing that Chelsea are not better than any of the other three sides.

Super Eagles in-form striker Victor Osimhen will be eager to test his wits and guts against some of Europe’s best clubs as the 2019/20 Champions League race begins with Chelsea having been thrown up among the three teams Lille will face in the next three months.

Peter Cech, who won the competition with the Blues in 2012 and is presently the club’s technical and performance advisor, has warned Frank Lampard and his men to be aware that they are not superior to Ajax from the Netherlands, Valencia from Spain or Lille from France.

“I think it is a very even group,’ was Cech’s verdict immediately after the draw, Soccernet.ng can authoritatively report.

“All the teams have a lot of quality and it is one of those groups where everybody can beat everybody so this makes it very interesting but we can be satisfied with the draw. We avoided long travel so that was one of the positives.”

Chelsea have never played Ajax or Lille before in a competitive match, a challenge that the former Arsenal shot stopper asks fans to look forward to with excitement.

‘They are new teams for the Chelsea fans and for the club so it is going to be interesting encounters but Ajax had a fantastic season last season so they will want to repeat that, but we are looking forward to the challenge and I hope we are going to go through.

‘We will like to do the best that is possible, so obviously compete in every game, try to win and go through the group stage and once you reach the knockout stages, anything can happen.

“So we will see how we go but the first target is to try to go through the group stage and qualify for the next round.”
