Arsenal began their 2019-2020 Premier League season on a winning note as the Gunners defeated Newcastle United 1-0 at the St James Park on Sunday.
Both teams struggled to create goal-scoring chances despite controlling possession for the most part of the game.
The Gunners could have taken the lead in the 35th minute but for poor finishing from Aubamayang.
A furious Unai Emery could not control his emotion as he frequently dished out instruction to his players from the touchline.
Meanwhile, Newcastle had a fair chance of their own but lack of quality finishing let the team down.
The first half ended with both teams not able to hit the back of the net.
However, at the resumption of the second half, the Gunners made a statement of intent as Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened his 2019-2020 goal account with a sublime finish to give his team the lead in the 58th minute.
The introduction of Pepe sparked some life into the game as he probed the Newcastle defence from the right flank with his quick feet, pace, and trickery.
All efforts for the home team to equalized proved abortive as Arsenal snatched the maximum point of the season to join teams such as Liverpool, Manchester City, Brighton on three points.
