Revealed: Why Trabzonspor Signed Mikel

In a bid to ensure that the team surpasses the feat of last season in the Turkish league, Trabzonspor has taken a giant step by strenghtening their midfield with the signing of Super Eagles star, Mikel Obi.

Trabzonspor narrowly missed qualification to the UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth on the league standing behind big teams such as Galatasary,Istanbul Basaksehir, and Besiktas. However, with the signing of Mikel, who is currently representing Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, fans are already nursing a strong challenge for next season’s title.

The former Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Tianjin TEDA star who has enjoyed great exploits in Europe, most especially in the UEFA Champions League, where he won the trophy with Chelsea, will be aiming to make his experience count on the team.

Although age may be considered as one major setback that could slow down Mikel’s progress, however, his defensive prowess and ability to spring some sublime passes in the heart of the midfield may well help propel Trabzonspor to the pinnacle of Turkey football.
