Former Netherlands striker, Patrick Kluivert has rejoined Barcelona as the club’s new academy director. The 43-year-old signed a two-year deal as the academy director of the famous Barcelona’s La Masia.
This comes after he was sacked as the assistant manager of Cameroon national team following the Indomitable Lions’ second-round exit at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations.
Barcelona announced on their website, saying the former Netherlands international will be the club’s director of youth football until June 2021.
A statement on the club’s website read: Patrick Kluivert is returning to FC Barcelona after signing a contract on Thursday to become the new director of youth football until June 2021. The agreement was formalised at the club offices in the presence of the directors with responsibilities for youth football, Silvio Elías and Xavier Vilajoana.
Kluivert who played for Barcelona between 1998-2004, scoring 145 goals in 308 appearances, expressed his delight to be ” back at home”
“I am very happy to be back home and looking forward to this new era, with the challenge of keeping Barça among the top teams in the world” he said after putting pen to paper. “I grew up at the Ajax academy, which is very similar to La Masía, and I think I can do a lot for the development of young Barça players.”
