Bad News For Liverpool As Former Southampton Star Is Ruled Out For Six Months.

Liverpool have suffered a huge blow ahead of the new Premier League season after it was confirmed former Southampton defender, Nathaniel Clyne has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out for a long time.

The 28-year-old picked up the injury in the Reds preseason game against Borrusia Dortmund last week. He was not part of the team that travelled to New York and has returned to Melwood for further assessment.

This latest injury is another setback for the right-back who spent the last six months on loan at Bournemouth.  He spent the majority of the 2017/2018 season on the sidelines due to a back injury.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his disappointment after hearing the news. The former Dortmund manager revealed the injury came at a time Clyne was playing so well but assured the England international the team will do everything to aid his recovery process.

“What can I say other than how gutted we all are for Clyney. He was training and playing so well – he was in outstanding shape. Klopp said on Liverpool website.

“Clearly an injury of this nature isn’t a happy moment for any player, but the silver lining for him is that, according to the medical guys, it’s a straightforward ACL injury. This means fixing it and coming back from it should follow a path that is free from pitfalls and complications.

“At the moment there isn’t much more to say beyond we’ll all support Clyney in whatever way we can and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch as soon as responsibly possible.

“He is such a sound professional and is naturally very fit and strong, so all these things are in his favour.”
