How to join FC Barcelona Football Academy in Nigeria

FC Barcelona is one of the greatest and most successful football teams in the history of the Sport and a lot of things have contributed to this fact ranging from an array of great footballing names past and present to magnificent footballing ideas and ethics.

The club is among the few big ones known for its zeal in developing grassroot players through its youth system which was magnified by the legendary Johan Cruyff, a Dutch legend who introduced the La Masia academy and also brought a revolution to attacking football.

La Masia, the club’s ever outstanding youth academy, has produced some big names since it’s inception including players like Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Victor Valdes, Pedro Rodriguez and Lionel Messi. The school tagged “the farmhouse” is located in Catalonia, but Barca have established other schools in some areas over the world through the FCBEscola programme to nurture young talents in different parts of the world.

The aim of the FCBESCOLA is to provide opportunities for young talents to understand the methodology, values and philosophy of FC Barcelona. The first and only School in Nigeria is located in Lagos where there are a good number of FC Barcelona coaches tasked with teaching these young players the ethics of football, the concept of the game and also guide them on how to face any circumstances they might encounter through their professional careers if they end up having one.

FCBESCOLA LAGOS isn’t aimed at teaching just football alone, it also focuses on providing formal education to the students with the official educational curriculum modelled after the Nigerian Educational System alongside a spice from the British Educational System, this means that the students can partake in external exams like the WASSCE, NECO, TOEFL etc.

HOW TO JOIN FCBESCOLA LAGOS

FC Barcelona have made it very easy to be part of their school, although, there is are criteria to be met before one can be eligible for the opportunity and one is that the said student should be 5-18 years old. Alongside this, there’s a fee for registration which is 13,500 naira, not a lot considering the fact that a billion things will be gained during the course. Also, there should be a valid means of identification showing that interested participant is Nigerian and lastly, participant should be healthy. As long as these criteria are met, you’re good to go.

  • Firstly, FCBESCOLA is temporarily located at Teslim Balogun Stadium so interested participants need to visit there to obtain registration form.
  • Registration fee (N13,500) needs to be paid to the provided Bank account.
  • Take along an evidence of payment back to the stadium and show it to the management.
  • Fill in the registration form correctly and honestly and submit all necessary documents.

After these, you’re all set. Easy. But this does not guarantee a sure ticket to be part of the academy as it only gives you a pass to the trial session. If the trial session is successful, then the participant is promoted into the academy and will begin lectures and training. This means that only the best and most passionate are chosen.

There are two main programmes offered by the FCBESCOLA. The first being the Competitive Program which is of two sections, the first being for participants in the age group of 6-14 years and the other being for participants in the age group of 14-16 years. There are two training sessions per week for the former while there are three for the latter plus a game every weekend. Training and player development is duly monitored by coaches and staff and only the best are picked in this category as it’s a core course.

The second program is the technification program. In this program, sessions are held once per week for children in the ages of 6-18 and it’s open to children outside the academy.

The FCBESCOLA LAGOS is a good opportunity provided by FC Barcelona in shaping the careers of our grassroot generation. A chance for Africa to provide the next Lionel Messi.
