Chelsea cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Sunday, but all eyes were on new loan striker Gonzalo Higuain.
The Argentinian didn’t get on the score sheet, however it seems he had the opportunity to early in the match.
Higuain and Willian had a short discussion over who would take a 26th minute penalty, with the Brazilian appearing to offer up the ball to his new team-mate.
Higuain declined the chance to score, and Willian converted the spot kick soon after to give Chelsea the lead in the match.
Fans have been praising Willian for his actions, calling him a ‘class act.’
Others were calling out the mutual respect between the two players, and were impressed by Willian’s attitude in selflessly offering the ball.
‘I want to give him the ball,’ said Willian after the match, according to The Mirror. ‘I wanted him to score the first goal today. But it will come soon.’
However, after the match it was revealed that Gonzalo Higuain’s name may have been first on the list for penalty kicks, and it wasn’t Willian’s to give away.
Speaking on talkSPORT later that night, Chelsea’s assistant manager Gianfranco Zola said: ‘In the list, [Higuain] was the first one to take the penalty. But they spoke to each other, sometimes this happens. It was a nice gesture from Willian.’
