Despite winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) three times, Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung has revealed that the Super Eagles remains one of the football giants of Africa.
Dalung, who was delighted with the qualification of the team to the 2019 AFCON with a game to spare against Seychelles, told Soccernet.ng that Nigeria still remains a giant force in Africa football and optimistic the senior national team would excel at the bi-annual tournament.
He lauded the team’s Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr for the splendid work he has done with the Super Eagles and assured him that he would continue to get the support of the government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“I am delighted with the success of the Super Eagles within the last three years that the team’s Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has taking over the team. Most importantly qualifying and participating at the 2018 FIFA World Cup where the team crashed out in the group stages was a great experience and also qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
“We have assured the technical crew that we will ensure the team have adequate preparation for the tournament so that Nigeria can win the trophy for the fourth time.
“To be frank, I believe Nigeria is still a force to reckon with as far as football in Africa and I won’t be surprise if the team lift the trophy this summer. I must admit that preparation is key and I am delighted that we can use our last qualifying AFCON match against Seychelles as a tune match for the team.
“I also want to assure Gernot Rohr that we are in full support of him and we believe he can achieve better result for Nigeria.
