Ex-international, Austin Okocha has advised the Super Eagles players to take the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to the cleaner in Johannesburg in this Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Nigeria tops the group with nine points while South Africa sit second on eight points from four matches. The last time both teams met, South Africa defeated Nigeria 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
After that defeat, the Super Eagles have remained unbeaten, winning all their three matches, beating Seychelles and Libya twice.
However, ‘Jay Jay’ as he’s fondly regarded by football enthusiasts during his playing days, told Kick Off that Nigeria must overcome South Africa in Johannesburg to book their ticket for the bi-annual tournament in Cameroon.
“It was a deserved victory for Bafana Bafana then, which I think we took a lesson from,” Okocha told Kick Off.
“If we win, that’s our ticket to Cameroon, so the pressure is really more on Bafana Bafana, which makes it also an interesting match to watch.
“For me, most important is for the players to understand, which I’m sure they do, that it’s a game they can’t afford to lose if they want to qualify for AFCON.”
