MFM FC crash out of CAF Confed Cup

MFM FC have crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup despite putting up a stout display in Bamako and registering a barren draw against Djoliba AC.

The Olukoya Boys will have themselves to blame having capitulated in the first leg; losing 1-0 at the Agege Stadium.

With this development, the euphoria of continental football returning to Lagos has been short-lived and MFM FC who many feel would have learnt some lessons in this maiden campaign will need to step up in the League if they are to have another shot at continental football.

Meanwhile, it was mixed fortunes for two of Nigeria’s other representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday as one was knocked out via the away goals rule and the other progressed based on the same rule.

A spirited display by Akwa United saw them secure a 3-1 win over Sudanese club Al Ittihad in Uyo but having lost 2-0 in the first leg, the AITEO Cup holders were knocked out with the away goals rule.

On their part, Enyimba played a disappointing barren draw in Calabar against Bidvest Wits but having recorded a 1-1 draw in the away clash in Johanessburg, the Peoples’ Elephants squeezed through.
