Semedo ruled out for five weeks

Barcelona’s medical department have confirmed that first Portuguese defender Nelson Semedo has suffered an injury to his left hamstring and that further tests on the player indicates he will be out for approximately five weeks.

Semedo who has made 24 appearances – 14 in the league was injured during Saturday night’s derby against Girona at Camp Nou in the 85th minute, forcing the youngster to leave the game which Barcelona won 6-1.

A club statement reads: “The Club’s Medical Services department has confirmed that first team player Nélson Semedo has suffered an injury to his left hamstring.

“Further testing carried out has indicated that he will be out for approximately five weeks.”

Barcelona has a demanding schedule over the next several weeks and faces Las Palmas this Thursday.
The team also plays Atletico Madrid and Malaga in La Liga and Espanyol in the Catalonia Super Cup. On top of all that is the return leg of the UEFA Champions League last 16 against Chelsea.
