Neymar move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona is almost a done and dusted deal after agreeing on a five-year deal, as the Parisians are ready to meet the release clause of €222 million for the Brazilian forward, a sum which will eventually break the current world record held by Paul Pogba at €89 million.
With the sheer size of the transfer fee, Neymar was always going to pocket a pretty penny from the deal, but reports today suggest he may go on to be the third-highest paidplayerin the world.
This is taking into account the huge money being thrown around in China also.
Ironically, former PSG man Ezequiel Lavezzi is the highest earner in the world with the £789k-a-week he brings home from Hebei China Fortune with Carlos Tevez weighing in second with £634k-a-week with Shanghai Shenhua.
According to Sky Sport’s Bryan Swanson, Neymar is about to dwarf what Cristiano Ronaldo and his soon-to-be former teammate Lionel Messi earn with his new PSG deal.
£515k-a-week after tax. That’s about £150k-a-week more than five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi (£362k)and around £80k more than Ronaldo (£424k).
Is anyone really worth that amount of money? 20 years ago, the original Ronaldo became the most expensive player in the world himself. Now, Neymar will be 11-times more expensive.
PSG will almost certainly have to sell a few players to balance the books and corroborate with FIFA Financial Fair Play scheme, but it only seems a matter of time before Neymar is officially unveiled as a PSG player.
