Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has sealed a short term contract with League One club Coventry FC after impressing their manager, Russell Slade during a one week training.
The ‘Yak’ as he’s fondly known amongst football lovers in Nigeria, will be making a return back to England after having stint with teams such as Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, and Blackburn Rovers, and is the second highest African goalscorer in Premier League history with 96 goals with over 250 Premier League matches.
“We’re pleased to have secured the signing of Yakubu, who brings vast experience and a terrific goal record,’ Slade told the club’s official website once the deal was officially announced.
‘His professional career speaks for itself, having scored consistently at the highest level of English football, and will act as a superb role model for the younger players.
‘He is astute on the ball, has clear quality and presence, and we’ll continue to work on his match fitness as we prepare for the final 16 games of this season,’ Slade added.
Aiyegbeni is the third highest scorer in the history of the Nigeria national football team, and represented them at four African Cup of Nations finals, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the football at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
