Player Ratings: Real Sociedad 1-1 Barcelona

Real Sociedad 1-1 Barça Player Ratings
It was a horrible game at the Anoeta, and similar to what Luis Enrique said, it was a miracle that Barça got away with a draw as they were totally outclassed in every aspect by Eusebio Sacristán’s men.
Lionel Messi cancelled out Willian Jose’s strike to give Barça an undeserved point as they played out a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta stadium, a venue they have yet to pick up all three points for almost a decade. It was a terrible performance, here’s how the players fared in the game.

REAL SOCIEDAD 1-1 BARÇA PLAYER RATINGS

MARC ANDRÉ TER STEGEN – 6.5
His passing wasn’t quite like him but he made a couple of good saves but was lucky to only concede once. A goal was wrongly ruled out for offside and two shots hit the woodwork. Not a bad game.
SERGI ROBERTO – 4.5
Was bad. He always struggle against teams who are determined in attack and Luis Enrique needs to find a solution before it’s too late. Looked clueless on occasions and was beaten at will. Couldn’t cope with La Real’s press, just didn’t do well.
GERARD PIQUE – 6.5
A shaky start made him look like he was nervous. Picked up a knock that gave fans a scare as he asked to be subbed off but somehow was able to continue. Could’ve done better to prevent Willian Jose’s goal by simply being more precise with his clearance. Grew in the game and his overall performance, especially in the second half was great.
JAVIER MASCHERANO – 6.5
His mistake presented Vela with the chance to shoot in the build up to the goal. Aside from that, he was quite solid and almost scored his first goal for the club.
JORDI ALBA – 4.0
Was as bad as Sergi Roberto. Didn’t know what he was doing and struggled a lot each time his flank was used by La Real for their attack.
IVÁN RAKITIC – 4.0
Played only the first half and was shocking as he looked slow and lazy and couldn’t do anything to help his team neutralise Real Sociedad’s attack. Was subbed off for Denis Suárez at halftime.
SERGIO BUSQUETS – 4.5
Another poor game from the defensive midfielder but this time it was very clear it wasn’t all his fault as his partners in midfield looked clueless. Had too much burden but improved in the second half.
ANDRÉ GOMES – 4.0
Was terrible. All he did was just pass and he was out of position so many times. He didn’t seem to understand what he was doing and really need to get more involved in the game.
LIONEL MESSI – 7.0
Was isolated throughout the game but still scored the equaliser for Barça with a great striker after being set up by Neymar. Also had a lot of defensive duties too. Didn’t do bad.
LUÍS SUÁREZ – 4.5
Always fought hard, which isn’t enough. Was running all over the Real Sociedad are all the time without service. Got Barça’s first shot of the game, wasn’t much of a threat for the opposition. He’s not in his best form.
NEYMAR – 7.5
Didn’t do much in the first half but exploded in the second. He grew to become Barça’s most dangerous player on the pitch. His wonderful run and square pass set up Messi for the equaliser after he got Barça’s first shot on target with a curling free kick that was saved by Rulli. Good game overall.
SUBSTITUTES…
DENIS SUAREZ – 6.5
Was subbed on for Rakitic at halftime and he did really well. Had a shot cleared off the line.
TEAM: 3.0
Overall, the team performed woefully and were miraculously lucky to get a draw. They didn’t know what they were doing and were outclassed in every aspect. Embarrassing display, one of the worst in years.
LUIS ENRIQUE – 2.0
It was like he just selected the lineuo and then hoped. Made only one substitution despite the fact that Barça were in a hot seat. Not impressive.
