Sporting Gijon vs Barcelona: La Liga Match Preview

Sporting Gijon vs Barça – Match Preview | Image: FCB
FC Barcelona will be without star man Lionel Messi when they take on Sporting Gijon in their 6th game of the 2016/2017 season.
The Catalan giants travel to Gijon without their talisman who picked up a groin injury against Atletico Madrid but still have the firepower Neymar and Luis Suarez upfront and will be looking to steal all three points at El Molinon.
Barcelona needed the help of Messi and Suarez to see off Sporting Gijon 3-1 in this same fixture last season and despite the former being out, it’s valid to say the Catalans are still the favourites to scoop this one and close the gap on leaders Real Madrid before they play Las Palmas four hours later.
TEAM NEWS
Coach Luis Enrique has named his 18-man squad to face Gijon and he left out Aleix Vidal once again, the former Sevilla man now has been left out of the club’s last four squad lists and rumours has it that he might be on his way out of the club in the winter transfer window.
Lionel Messi is still out injured along with Samuel Umtiti while Jordi Masip wasn’t called up. Luis Enrique might want to give Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes a starting role for the game while Arda Turan is set to come in for Lionel Messi.
Barça loanee at Sporting Gijon Douglas Pereira is likely to feature today despite rumours that he picked up an injury prior to the game. Key player Moi Gomes has a knock and it’s uncertain if he’ll feature against Barça.
