Barça to sign a striker before La Liga starts, Robert Fernandez
Robert Fernandez says Barça will sign a striker before the start of La Liga
FC Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez has revealed the deadline for the signing of a new striker, stating that the new fourth forward will join Barça before the start of the new Liga season.
Barcelona defeated Sampdoria 3-2 on Wednesday night to win the 2016 Joan Gamper Trophy and club technical secretary Robert Fernandez had a post-match conference on Catalan source TV3 where he stated that the club are working on signing another striker, and he will arrive before the start of La Liga.
“We will sign a striker,” Robert told TV3. “Options are currently on the table and we want to make sure we take the most appropriate decision.
“The striker will arrive before the start of the start of the League, that is our intention.”
The question now is when exactly will the signing be made? Speculations suggest there is a possibility of the mysterious player joining Barça this week. Barça play their first game of the new Liga season on August 20, this means the club will finalize the signing of the striker before 10 days.
When asked if the striker that will be coming will be a young player or a veteran in the game, Robert replied with a coy and unspecific answer saying “He is a forward. A forward is a forward. But we have time to make a decision.”
It is still unclear which striker will be joining the club. There have been recent names linked with Gremio attacker Luan Vieira mentioned. Gabigol is also an option while Fiorentina 32-year old veteran Mario Gomez has also been mentioned.
He also stated that the club are not rushing into making any decision and may also consider the possibility of a player leaving, Munir or Sergi Samper probably.
“We will seek the best for the players, they can go seek improvements that is best for them. The best example is Denis Suarez, who has returned,” he said.
Luis Enrique stated that Barça have the best squad in the club’s recent years and Robert Fernandez expressed his thoughts on that note.
“The squad we had was already extraordinary, was competing for every title and winning. We value what we had.
“There have been important additions of good age to acquire knowledge in a club where it is difficult to play.”
