Adriano Correia signs for Besiktas |
Brazilian defender Adriano Correia has finally left the club to join Turkish side Besiktas on a permanent deal, ending his successful 6-year career as a Blaugrana.
The versatile player joined FC Barcelona from Sevilla in the 2010/2011 season after spending five years at the Andalusian club where he featured as a regular. The player has been part of the Azulgranas for six seasons where he made 189 appearances, 115 of those in the Spanish La Liga. He scored 17 goals during his successful span at the club including 9 in the league, 5 in the Copa del Rey, 2 in the FIFA Club World Cup and 1 in the UEFA Champions League.
After long speculations, it is now official and Adriano will play in the Turkish League for Besiktas, moving for a fee of €600,000 plus up to €1.7 million more if Besiktas qualify for the UEFA Champions League during the validity Adriano’s contract at the club.
Adriano extended his contact with FC Barcelona last season till June 30, 2017 and started 2016/2017 preseason with Barça but did not make the team’s trip to St George’s Park and will continue his season preparation for Besiktas.
Adriano’s experience and versatility will be a plus for Besiktas. The player can play in both attack and defence. During his career, He has featured as a right fullback, a left fullback, a winger and a defensive midfielder. Another great quality of the player is his ambidextrousness, he is one of the most naturally ambidextrous players around and can pull moves equally with both feet.
The 31-year old was one of Barça’s most loyal players, clinging onto the club despite never being a first choice player in his position. He enjoyed utmost success during his six-year stay at Barça winning a total of 16 titles including 4 La Liga honours, 3 Copa del Reys, 2 UEFA Champions Leagues, 3 Spanish Super Cups, 2 UEFA Super Cups and 2 FIFA Club World Cups.
