Barcelona complete the signing of Samuel Umtiti – Report
FC Barcelona have completed the signing of defender Samuel Umtiti from French club Olympique Lyonnais with the youngster set to sign a five-year deal with the Catalan giants.
According to Catalunya Radio, a reliable source close to Barcelona, the club have closed the deal to sign the 22-year old central defender this summer and will pay €30 million or more with a 5-year contract to be officially signed after the Euro 2016 tournament in France.
Mundo Deportivo reported earlier that the club have reached an agreement to sign Samuel Umtiti on a 5-year deal and now according to Catalunya Radio top journalist Xavi Campos, Barça’s technical director Robert Fernandez was in an advanced negotiation for the player and has closed the signing.
Samuel Umtiti will have a medical at Barça after the Euro 2016 tournament where he is currently representing hosts France. The star have been named as the favourite central defender for the club by the FC Barcelona board this summer and all indications in the past suggested he will be the defender to move to Camp Nou this summer, no official announcement by the club yet.
Samuel Umtiti is a tough-tackling central defender with great composure, he can also play at left back and his versatility is one of the main reasons FC Barcelona put their priority in his signing. Still only 22, he can also wear the Barça colours for years to come, he will end his 5-year tie with Lyon, a club he joined in 2011 and has made more than 100 league appearances for.
