Former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi made his long awaited league debut for his German second division side FSV Frankfurt in their 3-1 comeback away win over St. Pauli in a Week 22 league game.
The home side took the lead through Marc Rzatkowski in the 10th minute but that didn’t last long as Frankfurt leveled through Yann Rolim before Dani Schahin scored a second goal for the away side. Three points were eventually wrapped up after St. Pauli defender Lasse Sobiech’s own goal in the 53rd minute put Frankfurt 3-1 up.
His only appearance before his league debut was four months ago in a German Cup clash with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin despite being in the matchday squad on six different occasions. Awoniyi, who is on loan at FSV Frankfurt from Anfield giants Liverpool, played 89 minutes before he was replaced by Joel Gerezgiher.
In Portugal, Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi featured for Uniao de Madeira, who were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Estoril. He played for 90 minutes while Anderson Esiti, who is also a Nigerian international, played for 90 minutes as well for his club Estoril though he was booked in the 42nd minute.
