Warri Wolves Fail To Meet CAF Deadline For Players Registration

Warri Wolves FC have failed to beat the December 31st deadline for players registration in the 2016 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League tournament.

Sahara Sport reports that all the clubs participating in the tournament are expected to forward names of players to CAF latest by December 31st 2015, even though they have less than 15 days (being January 15 extended date), but their lateness will attract a sanction, as the Seasiders are expected to cough out between $100 to $500 being the fee requested by CAF.

The players recently met with the new officials of the Delta State Sports Council in Asaba to work out a synergy between the board and the players ahead of the new football season both in the home front and the continent in 2016. The players complained about the remuneration policy of the club, especially the sign-on fees issue.

As a matter of fact, some of the players are being owed two years sign-on fees, and they all insisted that they want everything to be clearly defined before the kick-off of their Champions League campaign. Because of their inability to pay salaries as at when due, some of their best legs like captain Azubuike Egwueke and Gbolahan Salami have decided to go in search of greener pastures abroad. Egwueke recently signed a one-year contract with a Finish club, while Salami is still combing Europe in search of a club.

Warri Wolves finished runner-up in the NPFL 2014/15 season with 66 points from 38 matches, behind champions Enyimba. The club have been drawn against Praia Cruz from Cape Verde in the CAF Champions League this year.
