Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid has dismissed speculation linking his Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins with a shift to Aston Villa in the January transfer window.
Statements credited to the Super Eagles star suggested that Aston Villa and another Premier League team were interested in landing his signature but the MLS outfit have said that they have not been contacted by any team.
“The last communication I had with him was about two or three days ago, and he said that he’s coming in [on Saturday], ” Sigi Schmid said to Sounder at Heart.
Obafemi Martins, who played in England from 2006-2009 and was on loan at Birmingham City in 2011, was also linked with possible moves to Sunderland and Newcastle United in this window.
The 31 – year – old has contractual obligations with Seattle Sounders until the end of next season.
