Will Chelsea’s Terrible Performance End With The Sack Of The Special One

By: Obiweluozo Martins

The news of the sacking of Charismatic manager Jose Mourinho broke out on Thursday afternoon and many questions have been asked within the press as whether it was the right decision as regards to Chelsea campaign this season.

Last season Chelsea won the league and the Capital one cup with the 2-0 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium, but currently the English Champions are languishing in the 16th position at the moment in the league which they dominated last term.

On a personal note, I taught Mourinho would have been sacked earlier and the news did not come as a shock to me.

However, the point here is that the “special One” has yet again failed in his third season as it seems to be a norm for the manager at previous clubs in his managerial carrier.

Roman Abrahimovic was patient this time at least but after that defeat to Leicester City and coupled with that wonder goal from Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez watching Chelsea won’t have been more painful than ever. It was just another lackluster performance as the blues looks likely to end in drop zone.

Chelsea are just two points off been relegated, a clear evidence that Chelsea woes may not end soon.

The Chelsea hierarchy must have made a decision which they believe is in the interest of the club but time will tell. Jose Mourinho kept faith and resisted the temptation of walking away believing the situation will turn around but that optimism was blown to the wind as his sack was made known.

Several complains have been directed towards the dressing room as Mourinho criticized his players in the media and with the truth untold Chelsea season had just gone beyond factorization. Even Mourinho came out to say in the press that the club situation has gone beyond him as he criticized the players for betraying him.

The special one have tried out many things including the alteration of team dynamics, changing and rotating players to see if things will fit in but was still to no avail.

Fabregas once said that “we (Chelsea) must perform like the big boys and not like babies” but even after the Leicester City game, the Spaniard also quoted again in the question and answer section “that the team must show character, that if you are paid like a big player you play like a big player, when we win one game we feel the next game is gonna be easy and we end up losing the next one”

It calls for concerns as star forwards Eden Hazard was accused of mastermind the exit of the manager and it looks more as true as Hazard substituted himself after going down through a clumsy challenge from Vardy in the midway in the first period.

On the other hand Guus Hiddink might have taken over till the end of till the end of the seasons and off cause his contract depends on his performance starting from the Sunderland fixture, surely this will awaken the decision to relieve other coach from their duty with Louis Van Goal under Manchester pressure and intense scrutiny due to some close dealing at the club.

Finally, players like Loic Remy, Baba Rahman, Ramires, and John Obi Mikel would hope of enjoying more game time at the club and possibly help Chelsea finish in a good position, don’t write off Chelsea though at the moment as they many end up with a Champions League trophy this season to qualify for the next season competition as our memory and thoughts are becoming inquisitive asking questions about where Chelsea will finishes at the end of the season.
