Super Eagles red-hot striker, Odion Ighalo scored his 14th Premier League goal for Watford FC, but it amounted to nothing as they lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at the Vicarage Road Stadium on Monday.
Argentina midfielder, Erik Lamela put Spurs ahead 17 minutes into the game, before Ighalo scored the equalizer for the Hornets in the 41st minute, assisted by captain Troy Deeney. The first half ended 1-1, few minutes into the second half, Ighalo later picked a yellow in the 65th minute. But as the game was almost ending in a draw, substitute Korea Republic attacker, Heung-Min Son snatched victory for the visitors late in the 89th minute.
As if that was not enough, on-loan Dutch defender, Nathan Ake was sent off receiving straight red for a rough tackle; as Watford was reduced to 10-men in the 63rd minute. Ironically, the referee’s decision affected the game plan adopted by Watford manager, Quique Sanchez Flores in the game.
The 26-year-old Nigerian striker is currently on 14 goals, two more to equal Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s goals record in the premier League as first Nigerian to score 16 in a single season in England. Ighalo needs just one more goal to catch-up with the duo of Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku who are currently topping the Barclays Premier League goals chart with 15 goals each.
