EPL: Ighalo, Alli on target as Iheanacho feature for City

Here’s a rundown of how Nigerian players performed in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Ex Golden Eaglet sensation Kelechi Iheanacho played 33 minutes of Manchester City’s shock 2 – 0 loss to Stoke City at Britannia Stadium . It was the 19 – year – old’s 10th appearance in the English Premier League.

Peter Odemwingie is still recovering from a hamstring complaint so missed out on the Potters 18-man squad.

Both Tiago Ilori and Gabby Agbonlahor started on the bench for Aston Villa in their 1 – 1 draw with Southampton, but the England international joined the fray in the fifth minute of injury time.

Nigeria international Odion Ighalo and Scotland star Ikechi Anyawere involved in Watford’s 2 – 0 home win against Norwich City.

Ighalo gave the Hornets a 2 – 0 lead in the first minute of second – half stoppage time before he was cautioned seconds later, then substituted in the 94th minute. Anya was replaced in the 74th minute.

Over to the Emirates, where Arsenal faced Sunderland. It ended 3 – 1 , with Alex Iwobi watching proceedings from the bench throughout the contest.

Victor Anichebe (West Brom) and Josh Onomah (Tottenham Hotspur) were unused substitutes as Spurs were held to a 1 – 1 draw by The Baggies at The Hawthorns.

England midfielder Dele Alli opened scoring for the Londoners in the 15th minute and subbed out ten minutes from time.

Victor Moses and Angelo Ogbonna both made the starting XI as West Ham played out a goalless draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford. The winger pulled up injured in the 37th minute.

Chelsea number 12 John Obi Mikel is on the bench for the late kick off between his team and AFC Bournemouth.
