WCQ: Nigeria Vs Swaziland Return Leg Preview


After being denied a win in far-away Lobambo, Swaziland, over the weekend, the game between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Sihlangu of Swaziland at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt this evening can only have one outcome; a win for the hosts.

With the visitors vowing to give a good account of themselves this evening, upon arrival in the country, it is clear that they believe they can turn the game on a Nigerian side who are unpredictable.

For Nigerian coach Sunday Oliseh and his skipper Ahmed Musa, they know that the days of making long speeches are over, they know that they need to wake up after that drab evening in Lobambo, to set their World Cup campaign on course and, as a result, make an emphatic statement with a win today.

“We still believe. Our defence was superb (in the first leg), but we were not that sharp upfront. We’re underdogs, no one expects us to win, but we can fight against the big dogs.

“It will be difficult to stop them from scoring, especially as they are playing at home. They will come at us. Most of their stars did not shine as expected, so they will now want to impress,” the Swaziland side’s coach, Harries Bulunga said, knowing what to expect of his more illustrious opponents.

Bulunga did boast that his wards will be determined to play their hearts out.

Just like Oilseh said, his side needs to bring its ‘A’ game to the pitch today.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State government has dangled the sum of $20,000 before the Eagles, as reward for every goal scored.

Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Kenneth Kobani, made the pledge to the Super Eagles on behalf of the state after attending their final training session on Monday.

Kobani also promised that the state governor, Nyesom Wike,will also host the team to a dinner “after you must have qualified for the next stage of the qualifiers”.
