Europa League Round-up: Fatai On Target, Ambrose Booked


Action resumed in the Europa league with some Nigerians players in action for their respective clubs. Players suffered contrasting feat as some tasted defeat while some were on the winning side for their Clubs on Thursday night.

SoccerNet Nigeria reviews the level of performance of Nigerian players in action in the Europa league.

GROUP A: MOLDE FK 3-1 CELTIC

Efe Ambrose lasted the distance for Celtic in the heart of the defence but could not stop the host from putting three goals pass them. Efe was cautioned (Yellow card) in the 80th minute of the game.

GROUP B: LIVERPOOL 1-1 RUBIN KAZAN

Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe was an unused substitute in Liverpool 1-1 draw with Russian side Rubin Kazan as Emre Can scored the first goal under new manager Jürgen Klopp.

GROUP D: MIDTYJLLND 1-4 SSC NAPOLI

Paul Onuachu came on for Martin Pusic in the 64th minute while teammate David Akintola was confined to the bench for the entire duration of the game. The other two Nigerians Babajide David and talented Rilwan Hassan was not listed on match roster for FC Midtjylland as they went down 4-1 to Italian giants Napoli.

LEGIA WARSZAWA 1-1 CLUB BRUGGE
On-loan midfielder Mikel Agu was one again not listed in Brugge’s match roster as Davy de Faun and Michal Kucharczyk ensured that both side shared the spoils with goals in the 39th and 51st minutes respectively.

GROUP G: LAZIO 3-1 ROSENBORG

Ogenyi Onazi lasted 11th minutes from kick off as he was replaced by Santiago Gentiletti due to injury as his side Lazio defeated Tippeligaen heavyweights 3-1.

DNIPRO 0-1 SAINT-ETIENNE
Babatunde Michael was not listed in Dnipro match day squad as they lost at home to Romain Hamouma’s solitary strike for Saint-Etienne in the 44th minute.

GROUP I: FC BASEL 1-2 BELENENSES

Basel defender Manuel Akanji was on the bench for the entire duration of the game as they lost 1-2 to Portuguese side Belenenses.

GROUP J: ANDERLECHT 2-1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS

Anderlecht forward Stefano Chuka Okaka lasted 88th minutes and scored the winner for the Belgium side in the 65th minute while teammate Imoh Ezekiel lasted 66th minute and was replaced Ghanaian forward Frank Acheampong.

On the other hand, Anglo-Nigerian youngster Joshua Onomah came on at 80th minutes as he replaced Andros Townsend while Dele Alli came on for Belgium midfielder Moussa Dembele in the 65th minutes.
AS MONACO 1-0 QARABAG FK
Elderson Echiejile was on the bench for the entire duration of the game as Monaco claimed a vital 1-0 win over Qarabag FK.

GROUP K: SCHALKE 04 2-2 SPARTA PRAGUE

Nigerian Striker Kehinde Fatai lasted 88th minute of the game. He was replaced by Mario Holek. He scored the equalizer for Sparta Prague in the 50th minute of the game.

On the other hand, Nigerian-born Dennis Aogo made a late cameo as he replace Sead Kolasinac in the 88th minute.
