Juventus star Paul Pogba was one of the most sought after footballers in the just concluded summer transfer window as he was being chased by a host of top European clubs of which FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City were all interested.
Barcelona Chiefs held a meeting with Juve’s officials in July this year for a possible transfer for the young midfielder, but the talks broke down after the Turin team rejected a mammoth offer from the Catalans worth over €80 million as they claim they aren’t ready to let their best player leave so soon.
Barcelona put the transfer on hold at that moment as they were not willing to exceed their bid for the midfielder and it was said that a move would not be possible. However, Paul Pogba has rekindled the fire surrounding the speculation as he stated during an interview with TF1 that he is unsure about what the future holds for him and a move to Camp Nou might just be on the card.
When asked “Has a Barça deal been struck in January?” Pogba gave a shaky reply during the interview saying “I don’t know, but for now I’m at Juventus and I’m focused only on them because we haven’t started [the season] well. And as for the rest, we’ll see what happens.”
The Juventus Number 10 spoke clearly that his future at the Turin club isn’t a certainty but he is keen to continue flying the flags of the Old Lady.
“Today I am at Juventus.. but I do now know for how long. Why did I stay? Why not? My leaving the team wasn’t a certainty.”
“We will do this year, and then we will see how things go. I am at Juventus, I am only thinking about Juventus,” he said.
Although Barcelona may have gotten Arda Turan as a replacement for Xavi Hernandez, the club may possibly add Paul Pogba to their ranks in the coming transfer window when their ban ends. The major obstacle to the transfer will be the fact that the star will be ineligible to play UEFA Champions League games for Barcelona if he joins in January.
Paul Pogba reportedly rejected an offer thought to worth around £65 million from Chelsea that will see him earn €12 million yearly as reported by the English media, this fuelled rumours that the french youngster might just have a hidden agenda. He once expressed his desire to play alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona and a transfer might just be in the cards. Real Madrid and Manchester City were also reportedly interested in the player, although the Spanish giants officially denied making a formal bid for his signature.
Had Barça signed Pogba in the summer, he wouldn’t be eligible to feature for Luis Enrique’s team until January, this surely was a major reason for Pogba not joining the Catalans as they brought in Arda Turan instead.
