Nigeria's U-17 side, Golden Eaglets, yet again recorded a 3-1 victory over Amakson Football Club at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project Pitch in Abuja on Tuesday.
It was Golden Eaglets' third win against the Abuja-based side following their two previous identical 2-1 wins on June 14, 2014 and May 27, 2015. But on Tuesday, Lazarus John who had a star performance in the defence, grabbed Golden Eaglets' opener in the 12th minute which incidentally was his first goal for the national team. Skipper Victor Osimhen added a brace in the 20th and 63rd minutes. Amakson's solitary goal was scored in the 65th minute by Nura Abdullahi.
Bishop Amakiri, the owner of Amakson described Golden Eaglets' performance over time as very impressive, saying he has no doubt the Coach Emmanuel Amuneke-led side would be one of the teams to beat at the forthcoming Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.[post_ad]
“Frankly, our motives of playing against the Golden Eaglets and any other national team for that matter is looking for improvement of our team,” explained Amakiri. “It offers us the opportunity to improve technically since it exposes our coaches as well as the players.”
Speaking further, Amakiri said there is a marked progress in the standard of the Golden Eaglets since his team's previous attempts , adding that that the national team would be ready for Chile 2015.
“Of course, there has been a tremendous improvement between now and the last time we played against the Golden Eaglets,” he noted.”The coaches are building a formidable team and I have no doubt they would do us proud in Chile.”
The Chile 2015 World Cup will be held betweenOctober 17 and November 8with Nigeria drawn along with host Chile, Croatia and USA for their group phase matches.
