Sevilla Keen On Douglas Pereira – SPORT

The Brazilian right back signed for Barcelona just last summer but has failed to impress during his first season with the club and might be heading towards the exit door with Sevilla monitoring him

Barcelona right-back, Douglas Pereira is likely to leave the club this summer with SPORT claiming Sevilla are interested in the 24-year old who does not seem to be able to cope with the atmosphere at Barca.

The player is even more likely to have less playing time at Barca next season after first choice right back Dani Alves renewed his contract with the club until 2017 and the arrival of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla.

Although, Luis Enrique does not want any departure until 2016, there seem to be an abundance of right-backs to choose from with Alves, Vidal, Adriano, Douglas, Montoya and Bartra capable of playing there, so he wants to let one of them leave.

Sevilla, who are well known for doing business with Barca have taken note and are thinking about making a move for Douglas Pereira, according to a close source to Sevilla, Diario Sevilla.

Sevilla’s boss, Unai Emery is looking to cover the right side of his defence and is targetting a player with pace with good attacking ability. The Coach feels these are qualities which Douglas has and he could come into any potential deal which sees youngster Denis Suarez return to Camp Nou before the start of next season.

The Europa League winners would break the agreement to keep Denis Suarez at the club for two years, but only if certain conditions are met. One of those could be for a Barca player, Douglas (as it stands) to move to the Sanchez Pizjuan, with the nature of the deal, Loan or permanent transfer still unclear.

Douglas, whose expected playing time for last season was around 300 minutes across all competitions signed for Barca last summer and did not meet up with that number. Seeing an opportunity to play more would not be a bad transfer for the Brazilian.

Sevilla won the Europa League and are guaranteed a place in next season’s Uefa Champions League tournament so joining them makes sense.
