Enyimba reclaimed the number one spot from the Jos-based
side after defeating Heartland FC on Wednesday in Round 12 of the GLO Nigeria
Premier Football League.
Giwa FC had climbed to the top of the league standing following
an impressive home victory over Ifeanyi Ubah FC at the weekend but travel to Kano
today to face Sai Masu Gida who have remained unbeaten at home in the top
division since June 21, 2003 when Julius Berger defeated them 2-1 and now
closing in on making it 12 years on a stretch and 195 home matches without a
defeat.
The People’s Elephant earned the bragging rights in the
Oriental derby over neighbours, Heartland FC after they crushed the beleaguered
Naze Millionaires 2-0 at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba on Wednesday.
A goal in each half, the first from Chinonso Okonkwo in the
40th minute and the other, a Christian Obiozor penalty kick later in the second
half, got Enyimba the win that catapulted them ahead of the 20-team league
table.
The result sees Enyimba climb to the first spot with 22
points from 12 games while Heartland drop to 8th with 18 points.
That may however change on Thursday evening if Sunshine
Stars beat Warri Wolves in a tough Week 12 tie in Akure.
Enyimba have now gone on a five match unbeaten run in the
league. The Aba millionaires next league game is against 3SC who are rejuvenated
since Gbenga Ogunbote joined from Sharks FC.
