Osazee Odemwingie suffers injury setback

Super Eagles and Stoke City attacker, Osazee Odemwingie has suffered a muscle injury that would keep him out for an undisclosed period. The 33 year old had recently returned from an eight months layoff with a cruciate ligament injury, and he was in the Stoke City squad that filed out against Sunderland ten days ago, where he played the last 10 minutes at the Britannia Stadium.
As part of his rehabilitation from his long term injury he was to take part in a reserve game for Stoke City on Monday. But he quickly took to his official twitter page to confirm the latest injury setback. He said thus:

“Little set back with a minor muscle injury so unfortunately I won’t take part in the reserves game this noon at the Britannia as planned.”
This latest injury setback will come as a blow to his renewed hopes of securing a contract extension beyond the end of this season when his present deal is expected to run out.
However, Peter Scholes, the chairman of Stoke City was upbeat in that direction a couple of weeks ago when he cited the club’s precedence of awarding contracts to players who are injured, with former midfield Rory Delap given as an example. He was given a contract despite sustaining a broken leg on his first season on loan at the club.

With just three matches left of the Premier League season, Osazee Odemwingie would be hoping to get some more game time before the curtains come down on it.

Life at the Britannia had started so well for the former Bendel Insurance striker when he arrived from Cardiff on an 18 months deal in January, 2014. His ligament injury  last April put a spanner on the wheels, and the niggling injuries that are usually associated with such major injury has inevitably surfaced.
He would have to prove his fitness in the remaining weeks to earn a contract extension.
